Facial Fillers

As we age, the cumulative effects of muscle movement and volume loss in the face cause creases and thinning of the soft tissues. By injecting dermal fillers into certain areas of the face, a smoother, fuller, and more youthful appearance can be achieved. “Dermal” refers to the tissue layer just beneath the skin which is the location where the fillers are typically injected. No anesthesia is necessary for receiving these facial fillers, as extremely thin needles are used for injection, and the fillers are mixed with a local anesthetic.

Fillers such as Juvederm® are derived from hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the human body, which will absorb water after it is injected. Typically, small amounts of filler are carefully injected into creases around the nose and lips. They are also often used as lip fillers to augment the size and/or plumpness of the lips. Results are apparent immediately with fillers. Results from Juvederm® may last approximately six months to a year. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort at the sites of injection may occur with fillers, thus it is recommended to schedule the injection one week ahead of an important meeting or event, as side effects typically subside within this amount of time.

Erbium Laser

Wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, and sun damage can take their toll on your skin, making you look older than your years. To combat these changes, many people choose laser skin resurfacing.

Erbium laser resurfacing differs from carbon dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing—it’s gentler and has a faster healing time. The precision of the laser allows the doctor to have complete control and to treat each area as deeply as needed. The energy emitted from the laser is absorbed by the water in the selected tissue. Once the water is absorbed, the tissue is vaporized, causing a controlled injury. The body’s natural healing mechanism kicks in and stimulates collagen production and cell turnover. New skin cells produce skin with improved tone, texture, and appearance.

A New Low: Panhandling for Plastic Surgery

Whether it means dropping a few pounds or putting on mascara in the morning, everyone wants to look good. But do you really want to look good—or do you want to be looked at?

An Ohio woman is raising money for breast implants, which will help improve her self-esteem, she says, but instead of picking up some extra shifts at work, she’s taking her cause to the streets. Thirty-seven-year-old Chrissy Lance, clad in a silver bikini and perched on a shiny motorcycle, has been panhandling at the side of the road to pay for her plastic surgery. You’ve got to give her props for putting it all out there to get what she wants, but her quest for $5,000 to pay for a boob job seems to be as much about attention as self-improvement.

Maybe it’s just me, but if I ever decided to opt for plastic surgery over my real breasts, I wouldn’t be parading around in next to nothing with strangers ogling my goodies. I would feel completely objectified. There’s got to be a better way! I’d keep it a private matter, maybe ask family and close friends for loans—or invest in a padded bra. But no busking on the street corner.

How far would you go to pay for plastic surgery?
